Hi there,
It’s already mid August, 15th August ‘Independence Day Celebration’, our ‘National Day’. Hundreds of thousands of people gave their life to regain independence. For the British we were their ‘Jewel in their Crown’ with their famous dictum ‘Sun never sets in the British Empire’ one of the most formidable colonial power during pre-1947.
The British entered India from Surat in Maharashtra as an ‘East India Company’ during early 17th century when Mogul King Jahangir was reigning India and when our most famous King Singe Namgyal was ruling our region of Ladakh.
By this time the reign of the ‘Maryul Kings’ of Ladakh had already faded with the emergence of dynastic bond with far western region of Skardo. The famous King’s mother being a princess of Skardo valley King Ali Mir Sher Khan namely Salima Khatoon later became famous by the name of Gyal Khatoon.
What does Independence mean to each of us? It means free from the bondage of serfdom, free to breathe the air and space like an indifferent sky lark that flies in the space for hours together symbolically! Only the people who are under slavery and bondage can understand the value of Independence?
Although world is considered to be modern and scientific, yet we are not sure if there are people who are still not free?
Thus this day reminds each of us to value our freedom also respect it because without it we are just ‘a pile of dust’ in the ground. It also reminds us to be responsible for our actions, which is required to be consistent with our thinking, values, commitment and feeling of brotherhood of all mankind!
Mankind is enjoying the most important stage of its civilization development as the expert states; Democracy, modernity, secularism away from bigotry, religious fundamentalism, and terrorism which has over whelmed the present times?
As per the scientific news the world is almost at the threshold of the next scientific revolution; which would help our planet to sustain on alternate energy source and we forgo use of coal and fossil fuel. It’s also paradox that although we want the safety and continual of human race on this planet of ours; yet there is so much emphasis on owning individual cars and consumption of fossil fuel?
Many people in the west are already predicting the end of the world with varied natural and manmade disasters? The size of the tornadoes and hurricane in America are mind bogling? Similarly, constant flash floods that have strucked Europe and Asia, especially China is matter of concern for the world community?
There was one news in the social media recently that there is increase of growth of 20% of foliage on the planet as compared to 30 years back which if not a fake news is matter of rejoicing as this help to contain the future climate impacts as it would encourage the world community to take up aforrestation as a ‘National Policy’.
I remember our local district administration was incentivizing the ‘Plantation Drive’ during the 1970’s and 1980’s that is, the farmers were being paid for rupee five for planting one tree and the scheme remain for at least a decade, a very futuristic scheme indeed! Bye for now.
